How Bat Removal Works

1. Full exterior inspection

We examine the entire building envelope — soffits, roof lines, gable vents, chimneys, and flashing — to find every active and potential entry point. Brown staining and droppings below an opening usually confirm an active route.

2. One-way exclusion devices

Custom excluders are fitted over active entry points. Bats leave to feed at dusk and cannot get back in. No bat is trapped inside, and no bat is harmed.

3. Permanent bat-proofing

This is the step that determines whether the job lasts. We seal the whole structure using materials matched to your home — custom metal flashing, mesh, and sealant — so returning bats cannot find a new gap.

4. Excluder removal and final check

Once the colony has fully vacated, we remove the devices, seal the last openings, and verify the building is secure.

Bat droppings (guano)

Found in the attic, on windowsills, on siding, or on the ground below an entry point. Droppings in the attic are a definite confirmation of a bat problem.

I saw a bat in my house and now I can’t find it. What should I do?

Do not chase it. Bats usually land and tuck into a curtain fold, behind furniture, or along a ceiling edge. Close interior doors to contain the room, and if anyone was asleep in that room or the bat may have had contact with a person or pet, contact your local public health unit for guidance. A single bat indoors is often a sign of a larger colony in the building — have the home inspected.

Is it legal to kill bats in Ontario?

No. Several Ontario bat species are protected, and killing them is illegal. Humane exclusion is the only lawful approach — and the only one that works long term, since sealing the building is what actually prevents re-entry.

Does one bat mean there are more?

Usually, yes. An occasional lone bat can wander in through an open door, but repeat sightings — or a bat appearing during winter — strongly indicate an established roost inside the structure.

When can bat removal be done?

Exclusion cannot be performed during the maternity season while flightless pups are present, as it would trap young inside. It also cannot be done mid-winter while bats are hibernating. We inspect year-round and schedule the exclusion for the correct window.

Do ultrasonic repellers work on bats?

No. Ultrasonic and noise devices consistently fail. Colonies have been documented roosting directly above installed units. Physical exclusion and sealing are the only reliable methods.
